Ayka Textile, operating out of Istanbul since 1988, establishes its Ethiopian subsidiary and begins planning a large-scale integrated facility at Alem Gena, Sheger City.
The 19.85-hectare facility begins operation as one of Ethiopia's first large-scale, vertically integrated textile and apparel plants, spinning, knitting, dyeing, and garment production on one campus.
Recognized as Ethiopia's top textile and garment exporter. Approximately 7,500 workers at peak, shipping to Germany, the United States, Japan, France, Spain, and Canada.
A period of ownership transition and operational restructuring, preparing the facility for its next chapter.
Oromia Public Enterprise acquires the facility, committing to a full restart and modernization of the Alem Gena manufacturing campus.
The site becomes Buluko Textile Share Company, marking the start of the current era with plant-wide machinery recalibration, ISO standard audits, and workforce rebuilding.
Operations resume at scale. ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 certification achieved. Workforce and output climbing back toward the benchmarks the site once set.
Continued growth in capacity and export markets, rebuilding toward the workforce and output levels the Alem Gena campus was designed for.
Positioned at Alem Gena on the southwestern gateway of the Addis Ababa metropolitan area, Buluko Textile connects Ethiopia's agricultural cotton corridors directly to the Sebeta–Djibouti international freight rail network.
Located in Alem Gena, less than 20 km from central Addis Ababa. Direct access to executive talent, federal trade agencies, financial institutions, and Bole International Airport. Adjacent to the Sebeta terminus of the Addis Ababa–Djibouti railway.

Direct adjacency to Sebeta, the primary inland terminal for the electrified Addis Ababa–Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), ensuring rapid electrified freight transit directly to the deep-water Port of Doraleh.
Conventional textile supply chains ship work-in-progress materials between disconnected mills in different regions, losing weeks in transit and fracturing quality control. Buluko concentrates every transformation from raw cotton to packed export cartons within one secure industrial perimeter.
